DOCUMENTARY PROJECT 2026

LES SAGES FOUS

In a playful spirit, the documentary will tell the story of a crazy love affair between a building and a puppet company. Biobazar (Dany Janvier) will be on the lookout for creative ideas for filming with his specialized equipment (drones, all kinds of lenses, state-of-the-art cameras) and will be responsible for the final editing of the documentary.

The film will consist of eight chapters and borrow from the characteristics of fairy tales: a world where the implausible, the marvelous, and the supernatural reign supreme, with the difference that this story is rooted in reality: yes, Les Sages Fous did indeed carry out this larger-than-life project. The chapters will be structured around interviews with the company’s founding members—South, Jacob, and Sylvain—as well as Paul Foresto, technical director of La Fabrique, forming the fiery quartet that kept this project alive. Their words will be illustrated with animations of objects, models, puppets, drawings, and photos, as well as old rushes, church clippings, and other miscellaneous items of all kinds. Visually, the film will range from documentary portraiture to stop motion, time lapse, and collage, all in a style reminiscent of Les Sages Fous: rich in contrasts and with a distinctive look.
