MICRO-FESTIVAL DE MARIONNETTES INACHEVÉES 2024

The Micro-festival de marionnettes inachevées (MMI) is the heart of the Fabrique de théâtre insolite project: shows in the process of creation, leaps into the unknown, and risk-taking are the order of the day! It is a unique international event that allows artists to test their ideas in front of an audience.

This year marks our 13th edition, which will be the first ever held at the Fabrique de théâtre insolite. For the occasion, seven companies from France, Norway, the United States, and Quebec will unveil their works in progress.

The Fabrique de théâtre insolite serves as a meeting place, a forum for exchange, and a creative space for the invited artists and the audience discovering them. It becomes the beating heart of our event. The MMI honors the effervescence of creation by celebrating the beauty of excitement and imperfection!

PROGRAM

INCARNATIONS TRANSITOIRES

Céline Chevrier (Montréal)
with Andrea Niño, Nancy Longchamp and Zeneli Codel

Incarnations transitoires is a research and creation project that has been underway since fall 2021. On the one hand, it revolves around the desire to explore the dramaturgical potential of material theater, focusing on large volumes of raw materials. On the other hand, it is part of a desire to set a body in motion in relation to these materials that come to life and transform themselves. The idea is to transpose and externalize fleeting but pervasive inner states into moving masses that interact with the body in ways that are sometimes abstract, poetic, and playful.

RADIOACTIVE

Mafalda Silva (Norvège)
Cross residency Norway / Québec

in partnership with Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec

Radioactive begins in the final weeks of Marie Curie’s life, the brilliant Polish scientist famous for her revolutionary research on radioactive elements and their properties. At the beginning of the 20th century, she worked passionately and tirelessly in this previously unknown field of physics, alongside her husband Pierre, at the expense of their personal health.

An actress and visual theater creator of Portuguese and Norwegian origin, Mafalda arrives at the Fabrique de théâtre insolite as part of a Norway/Quebec cross-cultural creative residency.

COSMOGONIE DOMESTIQUE

Claudine Rivest (Trois-Rivières)

Cosmogonie domestique is a research project exploring the creation of intimate theater for a single spectator. It draws inspiration from the myths that populate the domestic sphere, i.e., beliefs concerning home and family life. The show is presented in small boxed scenes displayed as an exhibition, inviting viewers to manipulate them themselves, or as a theatrical performance, meeting viewers in different locations.

SAY MAMA

Brzezinski & Schap (États-Unis)

In the world of a hauntingly beautiful miniature dollhouse, Say Mama explores the isolating and terrifying experience of new parenthood. This psychological journey follows a mother who, while trying to calm her baby one night, encounters a nightmarish transformation of the shadows inside the dollhouse. Performed by Libby Schap.

LES ÉPHÉMÈRES

Barbara Mélois (France)

Trained at the Reims School of Art and Design and a graduate of the National School of Puppetry Arts in Charleville (France), her dual background has led her to develop a unique style of work at the crossroads of puppetry, theater, and visual arts. Formal experimentation, mechanisms, joyful machinery, and dreamlike fantasies are all intertwined in her work.
She presents her shows in France and abroad.

“Les éphémères” is an impromptu performance punctuated by musical notes and the rustling of petals.

RÉMINESCENCE

Sophie Deslauriers (Montréal)

With “Réminiscence,” Sophie Deslauriers questions the relationship between performance and puppet theater. Curious to explore different possibilities for representation and interaction with the audience, she has created a performative installation composed of animated tableaux. In a mysterious and dreamlike universe, she invites you to discover a miniature theater inspired by the Nordic landscapes of the forest, in which characters straight out of a fairy tale evolve. She speaks to us of childhood, death, mourning, and resilience through a refined visual narrative. We are treated to a subtle show about metamorphosis, the transition from childhood to adulthood, and the fragility of life.

JARDINS INTÉRIEURS

Les Sages Fous

Whether in the shade of a bucolic arbor or in an eerie swamp, Les Sages Fous reveal their inner gardens. They have sown dreams and will reap mystery.

Amidst the buzzing of insects and the croaking of frogs, something fantastical lurks beneath the leaves. Once we cross the threshold, the vegetation follows us, and we find ourselves in another dimension.
